Again, the husband owes debt, but this film does not spend its energy on the surprise of opening the door. JULIA knew from the start that she had been handed over, yet she still sought reasons for her husband: perhaps if she endured tonight, tomorrow she could still go home as before.

MOODYZ made the room very dark. The rope, deep throat, and successive entries were nothing special; what was remarkable was JULIA's face, still trying to maintain dignity. The more she tried to prove she had not accepted, the more her body's reactions made that contract seem irrevocable.

The difference between this film and 夏目彩春's is that the betrayal unfolds more slowly. 夏目彩春 loses at the moment of opening the door; JULIA loses in repeatedly believing. The husband need not come to see; every word the wife says to explain for him keeps him present in the scene.

I kept it because 'still believing him' feels more relational than mere humiliation. The original premise is of course coercion; if understood as an informed game, the focus is not on playing the pathetic, but on her knowing the rules were already set and still wanting to keep that reluctant husband's expression until the end.
