The first installment of 'The Wife Was Swapped', featuring 澤村レイコ. The wife is used by colleagues and also taken over by people met on the road; the husband doesn't just hear about it, he watches her move from one person to the next in person.

Seventy-five minutes already set the structure for the rest of the series: first it happens, then it's narrated, then it's reminisced. It's not a secret affair, because the husband has always known; it's not a simple swap, because the control at the scene is not equal. The wife is spread, and the husband's original exclusivity is lost.

What truly makes this series work is that step afterward. At the time he wanted to escape the scene, but later had to retell the details. The wife's reaction only occurs once, but his narration gives that reaction infinite replay opportunities.

I keep the first installment not because it later spawned many sequels, but because it nailed the conflict from the start: the husband cannot stand witnessing it, yet cannot bear to completely lose that memory. The wives keep changing later, but what truly remains unchanged is this unwillingness to forget.
